The Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) will once again bring its signature energy to the heart of the Mother City with the return of its highly anticipated Free Community Concert, taking place on March 25, 2026 at Greenmarket Square from 4pm to 10pm.
This longstanding tradition offers Cape Town residents and visitors an open‑air preview of "Africa’s Grandest Gathering", delivering world‑class music free of charge and reinforcing the festival’s commitment to accessibility, community upliftment, and cultural celebration. The event remains a highlight of festival week, offering audiences a chance to enjoy exceptional live performances in one of the city’s most historic public spaces.
Since its inception in 2000, the CTIJF has grown into the largest jazz festival on the African continent, attracting thousands of attendees annually and showcasing a blend of legendary musicians and rising stars. The free concert remains a central part of this heritage, offering an inclusive, family‑friendly experience that brings the community together through music. The festival’s evolution over the years reflects a deep celebration of diversity, creativity, and Cape Town's cosmopolitan identity.
The 2026 Free Community Concert will feature a dynamic line-up, beginning with a Heart FM DJ (16:00–16:55), followed by Joneca (17:00–17:15), Zolani Mahola (17:30–18:10), Cameron Ward (18:25–19:00), Justin‑Lee (19:15–20:00), and Zoë Modiga (20:15–21:00). The evening will close with an electrifying performance by Sheila E. & The E‑Train (21:15–22:00). Together, these artists represent a blend of beloved South African talent and acclaimed international performers, offering audiences an evening of jazz, soul, fusion, and contemporary African soundscapes.
As in previous years, attendees can expect a vibrant atmosphere that reflects Cape Town's cultural heartbeat. The free concert is offered as a gift to the community, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background, can participate in the spirit of the festival. The event is alcohol‑free, and standard safety and crowd‑management measures will be in place, with random security checks conducted to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
The main festival will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), on March 27 and 28, 2026, and will feature a bold mix of legacy jazz icons and fresh global talent across multiple stages.
