Tyla, born Tyla Laura Seethal, has earned a nomination for the Best African Music Performance award at the 2026 Grammy Awards for her single “Push 2 Start”.
She is nominated alongside Davido featuring Omah Lay for “With You", Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin for “Hope & Love" and Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid for “Gimme Dat".
The nomination highlights Tyla's growing influence as a South African artist bringing her distinct sound to global audiences and continuing her impressive streak of international recognition.
“Push 2 Start” showcases Tyla’s smooth blend of amapiano, pop, R&B and reggae music styles.
The song’s lyrics use the metaphor of starting a car to express themes of momentum, risk, and desire - capturing the thrill of beginning something new.
The track builds on the global attention Tyla received from her earlier hit “Water”, offering a more confident and upbeat sound while keeping her signature mix of sultry vocals and rhythmic production.
Since its release, “Push 2 Start” has gained steady streaming numbers, radio play and engagement on social platforms, cementing Tyla’s position among Africa’s most exciting exports.
Tyla’s music career has developed rapidly. Her self-titled debut album, “Tyla”, released in 2024, solidified her place in the global music industry.
Her breakout single “Water” made history by entering the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023, making Tyla the first South African solo artist in more than five decades to achieve that feat.
The song peaked at number seven and went multi-platinum across several countries. “Water” also earned her a Grammy for Best African Music Performance in 2024, marking a milestone for African representation on the global stage.
Before her album release, Tyla gained attention with earlier singles such as “Getting Late” featuring Kooldrink and “Been Thinking", both of which established her distinct sonic identity.
Her evolving discography now includes collaborations with global acts and continuous recognition across streaming platforms and award shows.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 1, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
