Singer-songwriter Msaki, born Asanda Lusaseni Mvana, has confirmed her return to music after taking a break from the industry.

The artist shared her plans in an Instagram video, signalling new projects and performances in the coming months.

“I’m very excited to announce that my bookings for 2026 are open. So, 2025 will be pretty quiet, just trying to get back to my flow and working on my way to performance mode. We are doing a few meaningful gigs this year with some friends, family and close brands.

“My team has sent out an email to producers, curators, promoters and festival organisers who have been reaching out over the last two years. I look forward to sharing a lot of the self-produced shows that my team and I are planning.

"Soon, you will be able to hear the old projects you love and new ones as well,” Msaki said.

Msaki stepped back from the music scene in 2023, announcing her break through a heartfelt social media note. She explained that her decision was driven by her sensitivity and emotional engagement with her work.

“Please also understand why I have to leave this space. Please release me. I may seem weak because I let this get to me. But I am sensitive and sentimental, an empath (this is my most valuable creativity tool)."

"My skin is not thick; it is porous, so I feel the changes in the breeze. I’m moved quickly and deeply. I understand this may be abnormal. I don’t expect everyone to understand, but I know some of you get it,” she wrote at the time.

Since then, Msaki has focused on creating new material and preparing for her return to live performances.

She has indicated that 2025 will be a period of preparation, with a limited number of carefully chosen shows to reconnect with her audience. These performances will include collaborations with friends, family and selected brands.

One of her upcoming appearances is at the Scorpion Kings Live with Friends concert on Friday, August 29. This event is expected to provide a platform for both new material and familiar songs from her earlier work.

Fans of the songbird can anticipate a mix of past favourites and fresh tracks, as she gradually re-engages with her audience and builds momentum toward a fuller schedule in 2026.

Msaki is celebrated for her soulful voice and poetic songwriting, with hits such as “Pearls To Swine”, "Fetch Your Life” and "Iimfama Ziyabona” earning critical acclaim and a devoted following.

Over the years, she has collaborated with artists like Black Coffee and Sun-El Musician, solidifying her reputation as one of South Africa’s most innovative contemporary musicians.
