Two of our favourite things are crashing together, and honestly, we didn’t see it coming.
Rapper Ice Spice, yes, the one who had us all vibing with "Munch (Feelin’ U)" and then went mysteriously quiet, is making her film debut in the latest "SpongeBob" movie.
And before you roll your eyes, yes, a music artist stepping into an animated film isn’t exactly headline news… but there’s something about this combo that just works.
On Thursday, Paramount Pictures dropped the official trailer for "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants," and fans got their first peek at the rapper's character.
Her animated fish has a bright orange Afro, which mirrors her signature real-life look. And let me just say, this natural hairstyle has inspired so many (including me), so if this fish character didn’t rock that adorable ‘do? Who even is it? We are here for it.
Though Ice Spice only pops up for a few seconds in the teaser, it looks like she’ll be voicing a ride attendant at an amusement park.
She’s also dropping a new song called “Big Guy” on the movie’s soundtrack, marking her first foray into voice acting while giving us a little extra banger to get excited about (or not).
What makes this collaboration even sweeter is the link between worlds. On one side, you’ve got SpongeBob, the millennial cartoon that had us glued to screens as kids.
On the other hand, you’ve got a Gen Z rapper who embodies today’s music culture, all confidence, style, and unapologetic energy. Bringing these two together feels like bridging eras, a subtle nod to nostalgia while keeping things fresh and current.
"The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" hit cinemas in 2004, following SpongeBob and the annoyingly hilarious Patrick as they set out to retrieve King Neptune’s stolen crown.
"The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" followed in 2015, sending the duo into the real world to save Bikini Bottom.
And now, nearly a decade later, the gang is back for this latest instalment, bringing a mix of nostalgia and new energy with Ice Spice stepping into Bikini Bottom, whether you like it or not.
"Deadline" reported back in June that Spice is joining a star-studded voice-over cast alongside George Lopez, Regina Hall and Sherry Cola
