Some mornings people wake up and choose peace. Other mornings they wake up and choose violence with a WiFi connection.
Media personality and singer Unathi Nkayi found herself dealing with the latter after a social media post about her and her friends went viral for all the wrong reasons.
The post came from Donald Makhasane, who shared a video of Nkayi spending time with her circle. What should have been a simple moment quickly turned controversial thanks to his caption.
He wrote: “My boys, I can’t teach you everything. This is the group of grannies you need to date to get ahead in life. I’m not gonna repeat myself.”
The wording did not land well online and Nkayi was quick to respond, clearly unimpressed by the tone and the disrespect aimed at her friends.
“DISRESPECT. You woke up and decided to disrespect my friends. You’re going to regret it @donaldmakhasane,” she wrote, making it clear she was not entertaining it quietly.
She then addressed him directly, shifting from disappointment to a full reality check on his behaviour and intent.
“Let’s start with you young black man who is willingly going to expose your low self esteem infront of the nation coz you thought it’s cool to call women that you don’t know grannies,” she wrote. “Focus on the dignity of your marriage and stop embarrassing your wife on public platforms.”
Nkayi also took aim at his online persona, adding: “The copious amounts of selfies you have posted as a MAN speaks volumes about you wanting to be seen. LOW SELF ESTEEM. Your wrist indicates that you need to take better care of yourself so focus on YOUR HEALTH.”
She ended her response by reclaiming the narrative with a touch of humour and pride. “PS Those of us who do have kids have sent our eldest ones to uni to study, to build their careers and empires. We’ll let you know when we do become grannies. Personally I can’t wait…..BUT in my family education FIRST.”
What started as an online jab quickly turned into a masterclass in boundaries, delivered with bite.
