At just 9 years old, Shaka Madida is already making waves in the art world, and his parents, Nandi Madida and Grammy-winning music producer Zakes Bantwini, couldn’t be prouder.
The Apple Music “Africa Now” radio host recently shared an exciting milestone for her son - his very first solo art exhibition - on Instagram.
The event took place at Magugu House, and along with a video showcasing Shaka’s beautiful artwork, Nandi expressed the proud-mommy moment with a heartfelt message.
"My dear son Shaka celebrated his 9th birthday with his very first solo exhibition, a goal he has quietly and passionately carried for a long time. On that same night, he made his first art sale! A brave beginning. A dream honoured. A milestone earned at only 9 years old," she wrote.
She also thanked iconic South African designer Thebe Magugu for supporting Shaka.
"Thank you, Uncle @thebemagugu 💐 for offering him such an uplifting creative home, for believing in his work, and for sharing your beautiful space with so much generosity and support. Shaka and the Madida family are forever grateful.
"Happy 9th birthday, sweet boy. You stepped into this moment with confidence, courage and creativity leading the way. We are endlessly proud of you. 🎨❤️💐🎉," ended Nandi.
Two years ago, the proud mom shared a video from start to finish of Shaka drawing a cartoon character.
In the caption, she wrote: "Oh, the places you will go, my dear son. My sweet boy loves drawing, and at 7 years old, animations are his favourite style, although he loves drawing other styles freehand. Visual memory is a true gift."
The talented youngster is not new to the spotlight. Back in 2022, he won his first karting competition. He also knows how to play the piano, just like his dad.
In a past interview, Nandi shared that she believes in instilling confidence, peace and joy in her kids, teaching them the importance of following their dreams.
Nandi, who also hosts "The Motherhood Network" podcast, where she shares stories about the ups and downs of being a mom, was recently featured as one of Apple’s Best of 2025, only six months after its launch.
The platform gives a voice to many women, featuring inspiring conversations with guests like Minnie Dlamini, Sho Madjozi, and Ntokozo Mbambo.
In appreciating the milestone, Nandi thanked Shaka and her seven-year-old daughter, Queen Nefertiti, for inspiring her journey in motherhood.
