‘Big girl, big moves’: Naledi Aphiwe proud after renovating parents’ home at 19

Rising star Naledi Aphiwe has reached another milestone in her journey as a young musician. 

At just 19, the singer and songwriter has renovated her parents’ home in KwaZulu-Natal, something many of her peers only achieve much later in life.

The award-winning, talented singer shared the news with her supporters on TikTok and Instagram, posting a video tour of the newly refurbished home. 

The clip showcases the now sleek and modern kitchen and living room, reflecting the stylish updates she has made. 

In her caption, Aphiwe expressed gratitude and pride, writing: “Renovated my home, I’m so proud of myself. Big girl, big moves. Please continue supporting me ngizowenza okukhulu kakhulu ekhaya (I will do more at home). I wouldn’t have been here if you guys weren’t here to support me.”

Her accomplishment adds to what has already been an eventful few years. In 2024, she managed to complete her matric with a bachelor’s pass, balancing schoolwork with a career that was already taking off. 

Aphiwe’s breakthrough moment came in 2022 when international superstar Chris Brown came across a viral video of her singing. 

Impressed, he shared the clip on his Instagram stories and praised her “incredible” voice. A year later, Brown invited her to feature on his 11th studio album “11:11”, on the track “Shooter”.

The collaboration not only introduced her to a global audience but also earned her $3,000 (R56,207) in royalties, a life-changing opportunity for the teenager.

Since then, Aphiwe has released her own singles and collaborated with artists such as rapper Blxckie, further cementing her presence in the South African music industry. 

Fans have continued to closely follow her growth, and her decision to invest in her family home has only strengthened their admiration for her.

Industry peers and fans took to the comment section to congratulate the young singer on her remarkable achievement.
