American singer Teyana Taylor’s upcoming album "Escape Room" is shaping up to be one of the most star-studded R&B releases of the year.

The 22-track project, which is set to drop on August 22, blends music, film, and storytelling, with contributions from some of the biggest names in entertainment.

Alongside Taylor’s vocals, the album features spoken interludes from Hollywood heavyweights, including Taraji P. Henson, Sarah Paulson, La La Anthony, Niecy Nash, Issa Rae, and Kerry Washington, to name a few.

One of the most anticipated moments on the tracklist is the collaboration that brings Tyla and Jill Scott together with Taylor on a song titled “Pum Pum Jump”.

Tyla’s R&B and amapiano-infused sound, along with Scott’s signature neo-soul style, could not be more different; yet, this pairing has drawn attention for its potential to create something fresh and unique.

The revelation of the collaboration has sparked curiosity among fans who want to hear how such different approaches blend on a single track.

More than just a music release, the album arrives as a visual experience, accompanied by a number of narrations by some of Hollywood’s greatest.

Taylor wrote, directed and produced the film through her all-female production company, “The Aunties”.

She first gave listeners a taste of the project in June with “Long Time” and later followed up with “Bed of Roses”, which stars her bae, Aaron Pierre, and is narrated by Rae.

During the BET Awards, which took place in June, the 34-year-old multi-talented artist took to the stage for a jaw-dropping performance of her singles “Fire Girl” and “Long Time”, which are both on her upcoming album

“Escape Room” marks Taylor’s first full album since 2020’s “The Album”, which became her most successful release.

In the previous years, she has focused on acting, directing, and raising her two daughters, Rue Rose and Junie Shumpert, both of whom make appearances on the album’s closing track, “Always”.

Earlier this month, she revealed that she would be stepping back from some promotional appearances, including a scheduled interview with Michelle Obama, after doctors discovered a benign growth on her vocal cords that has been affecting her voice.

The singer shared that the growth has been affecting her voice for some time and will require immediate surgery, but stressed that her album release date remains unchanged.
