A Gauteng businessman was arrested on Monday in connection with the grim murder of renowned artist and musician Oupa John Sefoka, famously known as DJ Sumbody.

Four suspects connected to the shocking murder of popular South African DJ Oupa John Sefoka, known to his fans as DJ Sumbody, are set to face the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The suspects, including three hitmen and an alleged mastermind, are facing multiple charges, including the murder of DJ Sumbody and two of his bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza.
The arrests were made by Gauteng organised crime detectives, who were assisted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the police spokesperson, confirmed that the operation took place on Monday afternoon in Gauteng, leading to the capture of all four suspects, while a weapon allegedly linked to the crime has also been recovered.
“Three of the suspects are believed to be hitmen, and one is alleged to have ordered the hit on the DJ,” Mathe stated.
DJ Sumbody's death sent shockwaves through both the entertainment industry and the broader public, sparking outrage and calls for justice from fans and family alike.
The National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola expressed his appreciation for the hard work of law enforcement officials involved in bringing the case to this point.
“Well done to the teams that have been piecing together evidence since November 2022. This is a culmination of hard work and dedication to justice,” he added, emphasising the complexity of the case and the importance of a thorough investigation to build a robust court case.
The charges the suspects will face include murder and conspiracy to commit murder. As the court appearance looms, families and friends of the victims are hopeful that these developments will pave the way for much needed closure.
