Kelly Khumalo has slammed the police. Kelly Khumalo has slammed the police.
Johannesburg - Singer Kelly Khumalo received a stream of vitriol and vulgarity after her appearance on a talk show where she spoke about her murdered lover, Senzo Meyiwa.
Criticism of her online grew harsh, with many calling her crude names and calling for her to be arrested and even killed for what they believe is her alleged role in the murder of the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper.
In an interview on Real Talk with Anele Mdoda, Khumalo spoke of her frustration with the slow pace of the murder probe.
“The investigation thing is driving me crazy because people want to know. And I want to get this out of my system and move on with my life.
"At the end of the day, I’m not the killer here. At the end of the day‚ I’m one person who wants the country to know what happened.”
She added: “Senzo was not only loved by me. He was loved by his family. He was loved by the country.
"And for me‚ I feel like the police are not doing enough. I’m actually mad.”
But that didn’t fare well with many people. Elton Malatjie wrote on Facebook: “Looks like Kelly has some screw loose in her head. She was holding the information but never considered to tell and all she did was Asine... She must also rot in jail!”
Malatjie was referring to a song Khumalo released soon after Meyiwa’s death about a widow saying she didn’t kill her husband.
Also on Facebook, Sbuda Thukzen said: “Take her to rot in jail.”
Others like Bennet Tau demanded answers, saying: “I agree with her 100% that she is not a killer, but she knows exactly who killed Senzo Meyiwa and we need answers from her.”
As if aware of how the public would react to the interview, Khumalo said on air: “I have always been at peace where Senzo is concerned, how he felt about me. You can’t take that away from me.
"That is the beauty of it‚ that you can scream‚ you can accuse‚ you can call me names‚ but one thing that you can never take away from me is the fact that that man loved me. Even in his grave.”
Though very few, there were some who came to her defence.
Among them was Ditebogo John Sibanda, who wrote: “People need to stop accusing or judging Kelly. As people, we have different ways of mourning.
"The fact that she kept quiet doesn’t mean she has something to do with Senzo’s murder.”
Meyiwa was killed at Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, almost two years ago. His docket has changed hands between the SAPS and the Hawks several times, without success.
