Proteas could face disciplinary hearings

Cricket bosses have refused to fire any of the Proteas currently on tour in Bangladesh, despite strong calls for their instant dismissal by sport and recreation portfolio committee chairperson Butana Komphela on Tuesday.

It was, however, revealed that "internal processes", including possible disciplinary hearings for certain players, were under way.

These would be finalised in April once the team returned from India, where it was heading after completing its tour of Bangladesh.

During a debate on transformation in cricket on Tuesday, Komphela demanded the immediate dismissal of all players who had risen up in "mutiny" against SA Cricket Board President Norman Arendse's demand last week for a more "transformed" squad to be sent on tour.

"Gerald, as soon as they land, and when they make it through (immigration), give them their clearance and they must go," he told Cricket SA CEO Gerald Majola, who also attended the committee hearing in support of Arendse.

Komphela said Arendse and his provincial presidents should not be pushed around by players who tried to thwart transformation in the sport.

He was referring to last week's incident where players supported coach Mickey Arthur, who was accused by Arendse of selecting a team to tour Bangladesh that did not fulfil transformation requirements.
