The Atlantic Seaboard and social media are abuzz with rumours that the legendary South African DJ and producer Nkosinathi Maphumulo, popularly known as Black Coffee, has bought one of the most expensive homes in South Africa, nestled in Nettleton Road in Clifton, Cape Town.

Nettle Road is regarded as the country's most exclusive street, and the luxury house sold for a whopping R157,500,000 a short while back.

Given its natural beauty and easy access to other parts of Cape Town, the road slopes up Lion's Head mountain, and is known as the pinnacle of luxury living.

It was reported that the home was sold to a company owned solely by Black Coffee. The alleged acquisition has come shortly after Black Coffee's high-profile divorce from his ex-wife, Enhle Mbali.

The design of the home allows for the abundance of natural light which is amplified by way of the double-volume entertainment area.

Once the news of the sale hit social media, netizens had their say, and it was all pretty.

@lungie_klaas wrote: "5 gigs and this house is paid up. Pocket money for this guy. This house has been in the market for years."

@gee_khalifa commented: "R160m and your neighbours can see you in the kitchen making a smoothie …this money should take you in the most excluded farm or estate."

@jimmy_soot_said: "Wow congratulations to him, its nice to see our local people buy those properties, they mostly bought by Europeans."

@chelamashego commented: "It was actually a smart move by Black coffee to move R157 million away from getting chased by a woman with another man, smart move. He knows he doesn’t “own” the company so he’s safe. He got himself some good lawyers I see."

The home in Nettleton Road is an architectural masterpiece boasting breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the iconic Twelve Apostles. This luxurious property features its own cinema, gym, and elevator, along with five en-suite bedrooms, each offering sweeping views and a private balcony.

There are parking bays for five cars as well as two self-contained staff quarters. The home is also temperature-controlled throughout - ideal for those balmy days or when the south-easter howls across the peninsula.

"In a nutshell, it is the most expensive house sold this year in South Africa," said Lance Cohen, owner of Lance Real Estate, who sold the place but could not confirm or deny who had bought it.

Known as the Pentagon, this home was designed by world-renowned architect Stefan Antoni, who lives next door, Cohen shared.

The house was on the market for a while with an asking price of R160 million, and was quite a process, with two prospective buyers, hesaid.

He previously told "Independent Media" that the house "boasts lavish interiors throughout the home along with a double volume entertainment area that merges effortlessly with the mountain and garden, which leads onto a large terrace with a rim flow pool overlooking Clifton".

Nestled between the forested foothills of Lion's Head and Clifton Beach below, the home also offers a tranquil back garden.

Cohen added that Nettleton Road has seen a few significant recent sales, with three vacant plots fetching a total of R170 million.

Cohen believes that interest in this area, along with the broader Atlantic Seaboard, is likely to remain buoyant, with inquiries from both foreign and local buyers.

"Cape Town is much in favour with the world right now across various publications, but when you look at London and Paris, Barcelona and parts of Europe, they're looking a lot more unsafe," he said.
