The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has confirmed it has already paid around R10.6 billion in tax refunds this year. However, some taxpayers are still waiting for their refunds and are unsure how to check the status of their payment.
IOL also previously reported that the revenue service revealed several factors that could delay a refund, even if a return has been submitted, such as incomplete or incorrect banking details, outstanding tax debts, and additional verification processes for certain returns.
The revenue collector has also advised taxpayers to regularly check their eFiling accounts and ensure all information is accurate to avoid unnecessary delays.

You can easily check the status of your tax refund using these digital channels:
According to the SARS Service Charter, SARS aims to pay nine out of every ten refunds within 72 hours if the refund amount is more than R100.
However, the revenue service has stressed that processing times can vary depending on the accuracy of your banking details, whether you have outstanding returns, or if you are under audit.
