The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has confirmed that it will provide South African Sign Language (SASL) interpreters at selected branches across the country on Friday.

Earlier this week, the revenue service announced the successful completion of the auto assessments period, which ran from July 7th until July 20th. The tax filing period is now under way, with individual taxpayers encouraged to file via eFiling or the SARS MobiApp.

"The successful completion of the Auto Assessment period, which ran from 7 to 20 July 2025, will be followed by the tax filing period via eFiling and the SARS MobiApp for individual taxpayers from Monday, 21 July–20 October 2025,"  Sars said.

"Provisional taxpayers can also file from 21 July 2025 to 19 January 2026. For the majority of those who submit a return online, an assessment outcome is issued in under 5 seconds if all is in order"

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, the revenue collector said it will provide Sign Language (SASL) interpreters at selected branches.

"Selected SARS branches will have SASL interpreters available this Friday, 25 July 2025, from 08:00 – 16:00 to assist Deaf People and people with hearing loss," SARS said.

According to the post, the branches offering SASL services on Friday include Pretoria CBN, Johannesburg CBD, Durban CBD, Mbombela CBD, Gqeberha CBD, East London, Bellville, Bloemfontein, Mmabatho, Klerksdorp, Rustenburg, and Mthatha.

SARS is expected to continue this initiative on additional dates, including: 5 September, 8 August, 26 September, 3 October, and 17 October 2025.
