BOOKING is open for the world-famous Great Moscow Circus which arrives in Cape Town today following its Johannesburg season. The all-new two-hour spectacle, featuring 19 incredible acts, will take place in the air-conditioned Big Top in Founders Garden, next door to Artscape, on the Foreshore.
With all the thrills of a good, old-fashioned circus, audiences can expect a nail-biting traditional European atmosphere where they are never more than 11m from the action.
This tour includes medal winners from Monte Carlo’s famed International Circus Festival, daredevils from Spain and Mexico, as well as Europe’s top circus attractions, all hand-picked by international producer and chief executive of Theatre Tours International, Andrew Guild.
The Great Moscow Circus will perform every possible favourite – the funniest clowns, the most-daring acrobats, death-defying daredevils, aerial artists, balancers and much more. The show contains no animal acts, which is exactly how it should be.
Through a complicated series of interpreters, we got some performers to comment on circus life and their time in South Africa thus far.
Sascha Williams, who performs the Rola Bola act, comes from a circus family. His mother is a German citizen who has performed in circuses around the world.
“I think we all love experiencing different cultures, meeting so many wonderful people,” says Sascha. “Most of all there is no better feeling than to perform to an audience who is cheering and enjoying all your years of hard work rolled into just a few minutes”
Samir Guttler Brasil, one of the Brazilians in the Globe Of Death, says he is happy to be in South Africa. He’s been working a lot, but is looking forward to having some free time to enjoy the country. “I am impressed to see how friendly South Africans are,” he said.
The Catwalk Trampoline Troupe are also loving their calling. “People are just amazing and getting to travel to so many different countries and having friends all over the world is a wonderful part of circus life,” they said.
