IN addition to The Theatre Arts Admin Collective production of My Children! My Africa! this past weekend, the next of two works created by the first two winners of the Theatre Arts Admin Collective’s Emerging Theatre Directors Bursary 2016 will be In Wag Van. The show is written and directed by Jason Jacobs and runs from Friday to June 18 nightly at 7pm.
Steeped in the poetic, In Wag Van is a new South African play that explores the fear of death. After losing her son to unexplainable events, a woman lives isolated from the rest of her community.
She mourns her loss, but also the loss of faith in her community. They believe in old fire stories of the moon swallowing children to become whole again. Fear and hate creep into the hearts of the community, for they know in order for death to leave the night, one more child needs to be sacrificed. Devotion to faith and a fear of death, go head to head in a play where a fictional community’s hope in humanity is tested to its ultimate.
To see the show take advantage of #TheatreBuddies on Thursday, June 16 and bring a group of between five and seven friends and join the cast and director for a post show Q&A.
