Kimberley Airport in the Northern Cape and George Airport in the Western Cape are operating normally despite the Notice to Airmen (Notam) issued by the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) over the weekend, says Airports Company South Africa (Acsa).

ACSA said the Notam advised that certain flight procedures at Kimberley and George airports had been suspended.

A Notam is a notice filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect a flight.

Media24 reported that aircraft operators, including Airlink, received a notification from the ATNS on Friday night, stating that the that procedures for all instrument-navigation flight approaches to George and Kimberley airports had been suspended indefinitely.

However, Acsa said it was all systems go at its airports.

“Acsa understands that the suspensions are a safety precautionary measure preventing any aircraft from taking off and landing in adverse weather … However, we can confirm that there is currently no negative impact on operations at both airports with aircraft arriving and departing according to schedule.”

Acsa said that it was in constant contact with the relevant authorities to ensure that all stakeholders, including airlines and passengers, were kept up to date with developments around the situation.

“Travellers are advised to consult the Acsa Mobile App and our social media platforms for updates. Passengers are also advised to contact their airlines directly for any flight information they may need,” it said
