Thembinkosi Lorch's unhappiness and lack of playing time at Mamelodi Sundowns are among the reasons why it was necessary for the club to loan out the veteran attacker, so says the club's head coach, Miguel Cardoso.

The 31-year-old Lorch was loaned out to North African giants Wydad Casablanca for the remainder of the season, where he will reunite with former Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena.

Mokwena was reportedly instrumental in luring the 31-year-old midfielder away from Orlando Pirates to Sundowns last year, and could now help revive the midfielder's career.

The midfielder has made only seven appearances across all competitions this season.

Speaking about Lorch's departure Cardoso said the midfielder was unhappy at the club, adding that it was important for players to be in an environment where they feel they can perform.

“Regarding Lorch, as you might have imagined, he was not happy here,” Cardoso said according to FarPost.

“It’s important that the players must be happy. We cannot sustain players that are not in the environment where they feel they can perform. Sometimes, it’s very important to give them the air. They need to breathe so that they can express themselves and also have the game time because they need to play.

“Lorch is not the young player [anymore] and in the last years, he hasn’t played that much. So, it was important to let him go.”

Cardoso added that he spoke with Lorch, along with players such as Lesiba Nku, and Lebo Maboe, after their exits at the club.

“I called him [Lorch] and I spoke with all the players [that left] after every decision was finalised. I called everyone – Lesiba, Lebo. I spoke with all of them,” he added.

“We are in peace with the options we did, everyone is happy. That’s the most important thing that everyone is happy.

“We work with men that are not only football players. They have families, kids and for example with Lesiba, I told him it’s time for you to go because you cannot arrive home and not have your family happy.

"People need to have lives. I’m happy that things happened in the right way so that they follow their paths and they can have places where they can be happy".
