In a music industry where innovation and creativity are key, DJ DaTheo is making a name for himself as a trailblazer.

With his unique sound, entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to empowering local talent, he is revolutionising the music scene.

Born Mathews Mogale Magoro in the North West, DJ DaTheo's journey to stardom began at 16.

With a passion for music and a drive to succeed, he taught himself to DJ and produce tracks. Today, his genre-bending style which seamlessly blends amapiano, bacardi and Afro-pop elements, is winning over fans across the country.

He said he is drawn to bacardi through the community he is living in which is Hammanskraal and surrounding areas like Soshanguve and Mamelodi.

“I used to DJ in taverns in 1999; that’s when the love for bacardi started, but in this day and age I figured that people like amapiano, so I came up with the amapiano-bacardi genre. The incorporation with the rhythm and instruments that we are doing is to send and guide the current generation by sending a message looking at the current lifestyle,” he said.

While DJ DaTheo’s impact extends far beyond his music, his music label Musique Records Amusement Records is a testament to his commitment to empowering emerging artists by providing a platform for creatives to express themselves.

Speaking to Pretoria News, Magoro said his biggest influence was the late Vusi MaR5.

“It was nice at that time he came up with his style of bacardi music and I also got into the amapiano genre influenced by Kabza Da Small,” he said.

His recent single, Swenka, featuring Leon Lee and Differ Lowdy, has achieved significant success, topping charts and solidifying his position as one of the local DJ’s that are climbing to the top,

Despite his success, DJ DaTheo remains humble and true to his roots, his music is a reflection of his life experiences, from growing up in a small town to navigating the ups and downs of the entertainment industry.

“My recent single Swenka is a piano-bacardi mix, but I call it amapiano because I want to guide our new upcoming artists and the community to change from the life of likes to shine forgetting the knowledge of how to do income and to sustain and nourish their talent,” he added.

As DJ DaTheo continues to make waves in the music industry, his dedication to empowering local talent and pushing the boundaries of creativity is an inspiration to all.

He said his vision is to make the amapiano-bacardi genre to be well-known worldwide and enjoyable.

“I will push with this genre, I want see it grow big and not only make people dance but help them enjoy, I grew up in the music industry and I am looking forward to working with everyone,’ he added.

Magoro said he is looking forward to working and collaborating with upcoming artists and releasing music.

“New upcoming artists don’t have the stability in finance to pursue their dreams hence I opened my record label, and I would like to collaborate with any artist who is willing to work out there,” he said.
