A man was left critically injured after a shooting incident on the N3 Pinetown bound before the Pavilion in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.
ALS paramedics medical services said they arrived on the scene and found a male truck driver believed to be in his 30s with a gunshot wound on his leg.
"Advanced life support paramedics stabilised the man on the scene before he was rushed to a nearby Durban hospital for the urgent care that he required," said ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson.
Jamieson said at this stage, events leading up to the shooting were still unclear.
He said members from the South African Police Service (SAPS) were on the scene and will be investigating further.
IOL spoke to KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda who said he was not aware of the shooting incident.
In October, IOL reported that a man shot himself to death in his vehicle after being cornered by police along the N1 freeway in Limpopo’s Waterberg District, following the fatal shooting of his partner.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said police were alerted about the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old woman by her partner at Pongola in KwaZulu-Natal.
The murder of the woman happened when the couple was travelling in a white Jeep.
“The man, apparently after shooting the woman, removed her body from the vehicle and drove off to Limpopo. The shocking incident was immediately reported to the police at Pongola who attended the scene. Police in Limpopo were activated,” said Ledwaba.
The motive behind the incident will be established through ongoing police investigations. Police said domestic violence-related issues could not be ruled out.
A case of murder was opened at Pongola in KZN, and an inquest docket was opened at Mokopane, in Limpopo.
