SA Communist Party (SACP) general secretary Solly Mapaila has denied claims that they wanted the ANC to go into a Government of National Unity (GNU) with former President Jacob Zuma’s MK Party, stating that they instead wanted the ANC-EFF coalition.
Mapaila, who has often criticised Zuma’s move to launch his party as a counterparty to the ANC, labelled MKP as a “state capture” party that wanted to destroy the country.
The SACP is currently holding its 5th special national congress in Boksburg, Johannesburg which will conclude on Saturday.
The four-day congress will pave the party’s future including its alliance with the ANC given that they have taken a stand to contest the upcoming 2026 local government elections without the ANC.
This will also shape their continuation in opposing the GNU. The SACP has made it clear that they would never accept or support a GNU that included the Democratic Alliance (DA) because they were neoliberals.
Another reason for the SACP to contest the election was that it was not happy with the ANC-DA coalition.
“The party that we said yes to was the EFF. We said no to the neoliberalism of the DA and no to the party of state capture, the MK Party. We initially characterised MKP as the counter-revolutionary party.
“We have no formal relations with the MK Party,” he said.
Meanwhile, the MKP has declared that it will prove that the general elections this year were manipulated beyond a reasonable doubt.
Similar to this, the SACP has said that it will file a lawsuit in the upcoming year, claiming that it has strong evidence to back up its allegations.
