Kenan Thompson joins fellow celebrities in honouring Michelle Trachtenberg's legacy

Kenan Thompson has hailed Michelle Trachtenberg as the "first Nick movie star.”

The actress passed away on Wednesday, February 26, aged 39, and Thompson has taken to social media to pay tribute to the former Nickelodeon star.

The actor, 46, who starred on the Nickelodeon shows “All That” and “Kenan and Kel” during his younger years, wrote on Instagram: "Our first Nick movie star has departed us!!

"She was my friend and now she rests!! Check on your people!!! (sic)"

Thompson's post also featured a throwback video from the 1999 Kids Choice Awards, when Trachtenberg commentated on a wrestling match between the comedian and “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

Trachtenberg starred in multiple Nickelodeon productions during her career, including the sitcom “The Adventures of Pete and Pete”, while she also appeared in movies such as “17 Again”, “Eurotrip” and “Ice Princess”.

Elsewhere, Rosie O'Donnell - Trachtenberg's co-star in “Harriet the Spy”, the 1996 comedy film - has also paid tribute to her former colleague.

The 62-year-old actress told “Us Weekly”: "Heartbreaking. I loved her very much. She struggled the last few years. I wish I could have helped."

In addition, Kim Cattrall, who costarred with Trachtenberg in the 2005 film “Ice Princess” also paid tribute."Rest in peace sweet Michelle," Cattrall, wrote via Instagram, alongside a photo of the pair in their movie.

Trachtenberg is perhaps best known for her roles on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Gossip Girl”.

And Ed Westwick, her former”'Gossip Girl” co-star, has also expressed his sorrow.

The actor wrote on Instagram: "So sad to hear of the passing of @michelletrachtenberg. Sending prayers (sic)"

Trachtenberg, who underwent a liver transplant within the last year, was found dead inside her Manhattan apartment on Wednesday, reportedly by her mother.

"It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away. The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time," her rep shared in a statement.

Meanwhile, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has confirmed to “People” Magazine that it responded to a 911 call at 1 Columbus Place in New York City.

The NYPD added: "Upon arrival, officers observed a 39-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased. Criminality is not suspected."

In the months leading up to her death, fans expressed concern for Trachtenberg as she posted a series of photos on Instagram of herself looking unwell. In January last year, she responded to fans' concerns that she had lost a significant amount of weight, insisting she was "happy and healthy".
