Durban — EFF leader Julius Malema said there is no heritage without land, saying heritage is the land.

Malema was speaking at a Heritage Day event at Umhlabuyalingana on Saturday.

He said traditional leaders such as King Moshoeshoe and King Shaka kaSenzangakhona died fighting for the land of the African people.

Malema said heritage did not solely comprise traditional attire worn by people. He said they are being worn to identify different cultures and show that people are proud and not ashamed.

“We are still fighting for what belongs to us, we will never stop until the land is returned to us,” he said.

He further criticised the braai concept for Heritage Day.

“We cannot be told by Boers in our land that today is a braai day. What are we going to braai when we are unemployed?” he said.

Malema said Africans should never allow colonists to divide them and have them turn against each other.

He said the land at Umhlabuyalingana was taken from people and animals are being destroyed.

Moreover, he said dams should not be owned by individuals but by municipalities.

“We are told that if an animal can go into a farm owned by a white person, you must know that the cow will never come back. The little we have is being taken, the cows, sheep and goats,” said Malema.

Talking about RDP houses, Malema said having a property gives people dignity therefore people must be given proper RDP houses with flush toilets.
